1. Taran
2. Male
3. Elf
4. Taran is tall, slender, and agile. His speed makes up for his average muscle structure, though defined. He has lived for over a hundred and fifty years, but his complexion has not aged a day over 20. His hair is long, to his shoulders, and white. His eyes are green, to match his dragon's. He has a prominent jawline that shows his stern attitude.
5. Taran is a stern man, with a firm belief in his morals and unwavering loyalty to those who have earned his respect. Respect, honor, and valor are all important qualities to him, and despises men who have none of these. Though he is stern, he is always willing to listen to others and their arguments with an open mind. He is accepting of many people and their beliefs, even if they differ from his own. He realizes that some people are different, and they will always be that way. In addition to this mindset, he openly embraces learning and studying, wanting to constantly expand his knowledge and understanding of all things.
6. Adurthil is the name of Taran's dragon. Adurthil is a teal colored dragon, the son of Saphira, Eragon's famous dragon. His scales shine in the morning light, and seem to glow with the setting sun. Adurthil hatched for Taran in the wild, and as such is not truly accepted as one of the other dragons who have hatched for their riders at the Academy. Saphira admitted to laying the egg in the wild in the hopes that someone would find it untainted. Her hopes had began to be granted when Adurthil hatched for Taran.
7. Adurthil, since he hatched out in the wilds, has a different view point on the world than those that were born in the Academy. He understands honor, respect, and valor, much like Taran. He is thickly built, even for a dragon, and makes up for the muscle of the pair, but is in no way lacking in the intelligence category. He is generally tame, but, like Taran, if he is riled he will fight fiercly and without hesitation until the matter is settled.
8. Taran normally uses a long sword, like the Rider's sword he would receive upon completion of the Academy. He has practiced with it since he was a young elf, and thus knows how to use it as best he can. But with the added skills of a Dragon Rider, he finds yet more training opening up to him.
9. Taran was born in Ellesmera. His father was the local blacksmith, and his mother loved to dwell in their garden learning about herbs. This heritage brought to him training with weapons young, as well as a training in how to properly use herbs. Over his lifetime, he has been able to use these skills to save himself, as well as others. When he was twenty, in elven years, his mother and father were ambushed and killed by a meruading group of Urgals. He was filled with hate and anger, and rushed out into the world to seek out and destroy the monsters who had taken his family. He found them. Slowly, he cut their numbers by night. By the end of the fifth night, only three remained. He returned to Ellesmera to find cold stares and disapproving words from the people. He was an outcast. Eventually, he left Ellesmera to wander the wold alone. That is how he happened across Adurthil's egg. The dragon hatched for him, and they together headed to the Academy Eragon had started.
10. Taran sat in the woods as he waited for the storm to pass. It had been two years since he left Ellesmera for the wilds of the world. He was no longer welcome in the city, or in any of the elven cities. He was forced to wander the world, scratching his living from what he could find and eat. Many times he had almost starved, mostly in the winter months when vegetables and plants were hard to come by, and only narrowly escaped.

The Rain stopped after what felt like hours, allowing Taran to resume his wandering. He stood and began walking to the West, towards the coast. A loud crack, followed by a great gust of wind, knocked him to his knees. A giant dragon flow overhead, gripping fallen trees in its talons. Taran frowned and stood up. He looked to his left, where the dragon flew from. There was a small crater, and a glowing object in the center. His frown vanished as he walked towards the object. As he reached the edge of the crater, he realized what the object was. A Dragon Egg. He walked warily forward and knelt beside the egg. He ran one calloused hand over the smooth surface, awed by the color and texture. Dozens of white veins ran along the surface, etching out faint patterns. The egg shook and cracked. He jumped back , but his foot caught on a root and he fell. He laid on his back, watching the egg shake as more and more cracks spread about the surface. A small teal dragon burst from the egg in a roar of faint sounds. Taran smiled. It was small, and looked frail, yet he knew it wasn't. He sat up. He had learned about dragons and riders. He reached out his left hand, to see if it was for him the dragon had hatched. The small dragon jumped against his hand, squawking as it did. Taran felt a sting of pain shoot all over his body as he collapsed to the ground.
'Hello, Taran,' the dragon whispered into his thoughts. 'My name is Adurthil. I am your Dragon, and you are my Rider.'
